Overview

The Yealink VC880 is a multi-camera video conferencing system for extra-large meeting rooms. It supports 24-site HD multipoint calls and can drive up to nine VCC22 PTZ cameras over PoE. Its split design keeps the codec in a control room away from the hall. Yealink has discontinued this model, and new orders have not been accepted since 30 June 2024. Organisations that already run one, or need a current equivalent or compatible replacement, should request a quote.

What the Yealink VC880 is built to do

The Yealink VC880 is a room video conferencing system for very large meeting spaces, where a single fixed camera cannot frame every seat. It supports H.323 and SIP and uses a multi-camera approach: the codec drives up to nine VCC22 full HD PTZ cameras connected through a PoE switch and standard Ethernet cabling, so a long hall can be covered without a separate video matrix. Yealink has discontinued the model, with new orders closed since 30 June 2024, so most buyers today are either running an installed unit or comparing it with newer options.

Capacity, cameras and inputs that matter

  • Multipoint: 24-site HD capacity, which can be divided into two virtual meeting rooms.
  • Video: 1080p60 people video and 1080p30 content sharing, with two HDMI outputs that support CEC.
  • Inputs: a separate HDMI input for a third-party camera or video matrix, plus RCA audio in and out for a mixer and gooseneck microphone.
  • Connectivity: a 10/100/1000M Ethernet port, three USB 2.0 ports, and RS232 and HTTP API options for control system integration.

Where it fits in Qatar

A ministry's main conference hall in Msheireb is a typical case: the codec sits in an AV control room, and the PTZ cameras are cabled back over Ethernet so the hall stays uncluttered. A university lecture theatre in Education City that already runs a video matrix can keep it and feed the VC880 through the HDMI camera input. A conference venue in Lusail or West Bay hosting board meetings with teams abroad can use the H.323 and SIP interoperability to join remote sites.

What to plan before ordering or replacing

The codec's operating range is 0 to 40 degrees Celsius at 10 to 95% humidity. Qatari summers regularly pass 45 degrees Celsius, so the codec and the PoE switch belong in an air-conditioned control room. The external power adapter accepts AC 100 to 240V input and outputs DC 48V/0.7A, and Yealink specifies its original adapter only. Power draw is under 16W idle, 17W normal and 21W maximum. The VCC22 cameras, VCM34 microphone array, CTP20 touch panel, PoE switch and Ethernet cables are sold separately. Yealink recommends UL-certified CAT5E cable, with a maximum run of 100 metres per Ethernet cable. A free site survey helps confirm camera positions, cable routes and cooling before anything is ordered.

Support for an installed or discontinued unit

Under Yealink's end-of-life policy, the first year after end-of-sale includes hardware and software technical support, bug fixes and security fixes. From the second to the fifth year, Yealink attempts software bug fixes but adds no new features, and spare parts depend on local distributors and stock. If your organisation depends on this system, plan spares and support before your next upgrade cycle. To replace it, request a quote from SmartRooms Qatar for a current equivalent or compatible replacement, delivered across all 8 municipalities of Qatar. Purchase orders and LPOs are accepted, so the quote can go straight into your procurement process.

Questions about VC880

Can I still order the Yealink VC880 new?
No. Yealink set the End-of-Sale date for the VC880 at 30 June 2024, and new orders are no longer accepted. If you need a system for an extra-large room now, SmartRooms Qatar can quote a current equivalent or a compatible replacement, based on the number of cameras and the room layout you describe.
What size of room is the VC880 designed for?
The VC880 targets extra-large conference rooms, such as a ministry's main hall or a large boardroom where one camera cannot frame all the seats. In Msheireb or West Bay, a room with a long table and participants along both walls is a typical case. Up to nine VCC22 cameras let each area be framed separately, and a free site survey can confirm the seating layout.
How many sites can join one multipoint call?
The VC880 supports 24-site HD video conferencing and can be divided into two virtual meeting rooms. Multipoint licences for 8, 16 or 24 sites are listed for the VCH50 and VCH51 video conferencing hubs. A Doha university running joint sessions with partner campuses abroad could use this to link several locations in one call.
Can I connect cameras from another brand?
Yes. The codec has an HDMI input for a third-party camera or video matrix, plus RCA audio in and out for a mixer and gooseneck microphone. Video from that source can sit alongside the VCC22 cameras, and layouts can be switched between them. A lecture theatre in Education City with an existing video matrix can keep it and feed the VC880 from there.
How many cameras do I need and what else must I buy?
The system connects up to nine VCC22 PTZ cameras through a PoE switch and standard Ethernet cabling. The cameras, VCM34 microphone array, CTP20 touch panel, PoE switch and Ethernet cables are all sold separately. Yealink recommends UL-certified CAT5E cable, with each Ethernet run up to 100 metres, so budget for these items in the same quotation.
Does the codec have to sit inside the conference room?
No. The VC880 uses a split-type design, so the codec can stay in a control room separate from the large hall, with cabling run to the room. Yealink combines the power, video and control cabling into one cable. For a conference venue in Lusail, this keeps racks and equipment out of guest areas and simplifies the cable route.
Will the VC880 cope with the Qatari summer?
Its operating range is 0 to 40 degrees Celsius at 10 to 95% humidity, and its storage range is -30 to 70 degrees Celsius. Qatari summers regularly pass 45 degrees Celsius, so the codec and PoE switch should sit in an air-conditioned control room, not a hot cabinet. Ask SmartRooms Qatar to check cooling during the site survey.
What power does it need, and which adapter should I use?
The codec uses an external adapter with AC 100 to 240V input and DC 48V/0.7A output. Yealink specifies only its original 48V/0.7A adapter, because third-party adapters may damage the system. Power draw is under 16W idle, 17W normal and 21W maximum. Confirm the plug type for BS 1363 sockets when you request the quotation.
Does it work with Yealink Meeting Server and cloud platforms?
Yes. The VC880 supports H.323 and SIP and integrates with Yealink Meeting Server for meeting scheduling and one-touch access. It also works with Yealink Cloud Management Service and, according to the manufacturer, with third-party room systems and leading cloud platforms. Check your platform version against your current setup before purchase.
What video quality does it deliver?
The codec handles 1080p60 people video and 1080p30 content sharing, using H.265/HEVC, H.264 and other listed codecs. The VCC22 camera records 1920 x 1080 at 60 frames per second with 12x optical zoom and a 70-degree horizontal field of view. The optional UVC84 camera is listed at 3840 x 2160, which is useful for larger halls.
What security and network features does it have?
The VC880 supports IPv4 and IPv6, DHCP or static IP, an HTTPS web server, SRTP/TLS with AES 256-bit encryption, IEEE 802.1X and VLAN tagging. Its network handling resists up to 30% video and 70% audio packet loss. IT managers should check these features against their network policy before rollout, especially on a government or energy-sector network.
What support is left after discontinuation?
Under Yealink's end-of-life policy, the first year after end-of-sale includes hardware and software technical support, bug fixes and security fixes. From the second to the fifth year, Yealink attempts software bug fixes but adds no new features. Spare parts depend on local distributors and stock, so plan spares before your next upgrade cycle.
