Overview

The Yealink VCM34 is a discontinued video conferencing microphone array that feeds audio to Yealink video conferencing systems or UVC PTZ cameras. Its built-in three-microphone array covers 360 degrees with a maximum pickup range of 6 m, and it runs over PoE from a single Ethernet cable. Up to four units can be cascaded. Doha teams already running Yealink rooms: request a quote for the recommended VCM35 or a current equivalent.

What the VCM34 is and how it fits a Yealink room

The Yealink VCM34 is a video conferencing microphone array. It is an audio input device rather than a camera or codec, and it passes room sound to a Yealink video conferencing system or a Yealink UVC PTZ camera. Yealink has discontinued this model, and it stopped accepting new orders from 31 January 2024. That makes it most relevant to organisations that already own the unit, to buyers comparing it with newer models, and to anyone who needs a replacement for a unit in service.

Pickup range, cascading and power

A built-in three-microphone array gives the unit 360 degree pickup. The datasheet quotes 3 m (10 ft) for high-quality pickup and a maximum of 6 m (20 ft). The frequency response runs from 100Hz to 12KHz. The unit also includes background noise suppression, voice activity detection, comfort noise generation and acoustic echo cancelling, along with Yealink Noise Proof Technology.

Power arrives over Ethernet under IEEE 802.3af, with a rated input of PSE 54V/0.56A or PoE 48V/0.27A. Two RJ45 ports handle the Ethernet and power connection and the cascade link. Up to four units can be cascaded with Yealink video conferencing systems, and up to six with Microsoft video conferencing systems. The package includes a 3 m Ethernet cable, a silicone pad and a quick start guide.

Where it fits in Qatar

  • A 12 to 20 seat boardroom in West Bay or Lusail: one unit placed at the centre of the table gives remote participants clear pickup from every seat within its 6 m range.
  • A seminar room in Education City with a long table: two or more units can be cascaded along the table, within the four-unit limit for Yealink systems.
  • A training room in Msheireb running a Microsoft-based system: the six-unit cascade limit suits a larger room where a single microphone would leave corners poorly covered.

What to plan before you order

The datasheet gives an operating range of 0 to 40°C and humidity of 5 to 90%. Outdoor temperatures in Qatar often pass 45°C in summer, so the unit should be used in an air-conditioned room, away from direct sunlight, window glare and open-air areas. If the room environment is unclear, ask the SmartRooms Qatar team to confirm it before you order. Check the PoE port budget on your switch and plan cable routes. The unit measures 169 x 171.5 x 37.5 mm.

SmartRooms Qatar supplies and delivers to all eight municipalities of Qatar and offers professional installation, with a free site survey beforehand. Government ministries and schools can order against a purchase order or a government tender. Because this model is discontinued, we recommend including a current replacement in the same quotation.

Support and replacement

Under Yealink's end-of-life policy, support for a discontinued product is staged. The first year after end of sale includes full support, years two to five cover bug fixes where feasible, and new features are not offered after end of life. Spare parts depend on local distributors. Yealink recommends the VCM35 as the replacement. Request a quote for the VCM35 or another current equivalent, and the SmartRooms Qatar team will help confirm compatibility with your existing Yealink system.

Questions about VCM34

Is the Yealink VCM34 still available to order?
No. Yealink discontinued the VCM34 and stopped accepting new orders from 31 January 2024. If your meeting room needs a microphone array now, request a quote for the VCM35, which Yealink recommends as the replacement, or for another current equivalent. SmartRooms Qatar can quote both options together so you can compare them before choosing.
What is the VCM34 used for?
The VCM34 is an audio input device. It captures room sound with its built-in three-microphone array and sends it to a Yealink video conferencing system or a Yealink UVC PTZ camera. It does not work as a standalone camera or codec, so it needs one of those devices to complete a video meeting setup.
Which systems does the VCM34 work with?
The datasheet names Yealink video conferencing systems and Yealink UVC PTZ cameras as the systems it works with. Up to four VCM34 units can be cascaded with Yealink video conferencing systems, and up to six with Microsoft video conferencing systems. Confirm your exact system model with the SmartRooms Qatar team before ordering.
How far can the VCM34 pick up voices?
The datasheet specifies 3 m (10 ft) for high-quality voice pickup and a maximum pickup range of 6 m (20 ft), with 360 degree coverage from the built-in three-microphone array. For a long table, cascading additional units extends coverage so that participants at the far end are picked up clearly.
How is the VCM34 powered?
The VCM34 is powered over Ethernet under IEEE 802.3af, so a single network cable carries both power and audio. The listed power input is PSE 54V/0.56A or PoE 48V/0.27A. You need a PoE-capable switch or injector on the network side, so check the available PoE ports before you plan the install.
Would one VCM34 cover a boardroom in West Bay?
One VCM34 placed at the centre of a table can pick up voices within its 6 m maximum range, which suits a compact boardroom for roughly 12 to 20 people. Larger tables or rooms with participants far from the centre may need a second unit, cascaded through the unit's cascade port, to keep every seat clearly captured.
Can a seminar room in Education City use several units on one long table?
Yes, within the cascade limits. Up to four VCM34 units can be cascaded with Yealink video conferencing systems, and each unit connects through its second RJ45 port. A university seminar room with a long table can place units along the length of the table so remote participants hear contributions from every seat.
Does the VCM34 suit a training room in Msheireb that uses a Microsoft system?
Yes, according to the datasheet. Up to six VCM34 units can be cascaded with Microsoft video conferencing systems, which gives more coverage than the four-unit limit for Yealink systems. Confirm the Microsoft platform and room layout with the SmartRooms Qatar team before quoting, so the number of units matches the space.
Can the VCM34 run in a hot, sunny room in Qatar?
The datasheet gives an operating temperature of 0 to 40°C and humidity of 5 to 90%. Qatar summer temperatures often exceed 45°C outdoors, so the unit should only be used in an air-conditioned room, away from direct sunlight and windows. If the room is unusual, such as a lobby with glass walls, ask SmartRooms Qatar to review the location.
How does the VCM34 handle background noise and echo?
The VCM34 includes background noise suppression, voice activity detection, comfort noise generation and acoustic echo cancelling. It also uses Yealink Noise Proof Technology. These functions help keep speech clear in busy offices or near air conditioning noise, though room acoustics such as hard surfaces still affect the final result.
Can a school in Al Rayyan order several VCM34 units on a purchase order?
Schools can order against a purchase order (LPO), and SmartRooms Qatar supplies and delivers to all eight municipalities. Because the VCM34 is discontinued, a school fitting out several classrooms should request a quote for the VCM35 or another current equivalent instead, so the cascade and PoE requirements of each room can be checked before ordering.
Is a site survey needed before installing the VCM34?
A site survey is useful before installation. It confirms the table layout, the distance to the nearest PoE switch port, and cable routes for each unit. SmartRooms Qatar offers free site surveys. Installing a cascade of units also depends on the number of units and the connected video conferencing system, which the survey helps to confirm.
What support does Yealink offer for a discontinued VCM34?
Under Yealink's end-of-life policy, the first year after end of sale includes full product support, years two to five cover software bug fixes where feasible, and new features are not offered after end of life. Spare parts depend on local distributors. Ask SmartRooms Qatar to quote a current replacement to reduce the support risk for critical rooms.
