Overview

The LG 86BH5C is an 86-inch stretched digital signage display with a 3,840 x 600 UHD panel, 500 nits typical brightness and 4.4 mm side bezels for wide corridor and lobby messaging. LG has discontinued this model, so it suits organisations that already own it or buyers needing a current equivalent. It is OPS-ready. Request a quote from SmartRooms Qatar for a replacement or compatible option.

What the LG 86BH5C is built for

The LG 86BH5C is an 86-inch digital signage display in LG's stretched format, with a 3,840 x 600 pixel UHD panel. Its wide, short shape suits a strip of content running along a corridor, above a reception desk, across a lobby wall or over a shop frontage, where a standard 16:9 screen would look out of proportion or waste space. LG has discontinued this model, so this page is written for organisations that already run it, buyers comparing it with newer displays, and anyone who needs a current equivalent.

The specifications that matter for a stretched display

Typical brightness is 500 cd/m2 and the minimum rating is 400 cd/m2, so compare that figure with the ambient light in the room before choosing a position. Side bezels measure 4.4 mm on the left and right and 5.9 mm on the top and bottom, which keeps the image reading as one continuous strip rather than separate blocks. The head unit weighs 20.5 kg and measures 2,158.3 x 348.5 x 81.7 mm, so the mounting point needs planning from the start.

Connectivity and control on the 86BH5C

Inputs include HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI-D, an OPS slot, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports, and an SD card slot, with analog audio output. For control, the display offers RS232C, RJ45, an IR+B receiver and a pixel sensor. The OPS slot is the usual route for a plug-in media player that keeps the display self-contained. The data confirms OPS compatibility but also states that an external media player cannot be attached, so plan your content source around the slot.

Where it fits in Qatar

Hotel lobby in The Pearl: a wide strip for arrival messages and guest information above a check-in desk.
Office tower in West Bay: wayfinding and floor announcements along a lift lobby, positioned away from direct sun through glazing.
Shopping mall in Lusail: a promotional band above an indoor walkway, where the air-conditioned environment keeps the panel within its rated range.

What to plan before you order

No stand is available for this model, so plan a wall or structural mount rated for the head weight of 20.5 kg plus the bracket. Book a free site survey to check wall construction, cable routes and the power and data points behind the panel. Decide on control early: RS232C or RJ45 links allow scheduling and remote commands from a building management or IT system, while the included remote covers local changes.

Qatar mains is 240 V at 50 Hz, and the built-in power supply is rated for 100-240V at 50/60Hz. The operating range is 0°C to 40°C with 10% to 80% humidity, so the display must sit in an air-conditioned space, away from loading bays and dust-exposed openings. The package includes a remote with two batteries, a power cord, and 3-metre DP and RS-232C cables. Optional items include the AN-WF500 Wi-Fi USB dongle, the MP700, the KT-OPSA OPS kit and the KT-SP0 RGB sensor.

SmartRooms Qatar supplies and delivers to all eight municipalities, and government ministries and schools can order by LPO or tender, with payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. Because this model is discontinued, the most useful next step is a quote request. Send the room size, viewing distance and content plan to the SmartRooms Qatar team, and request a quote for a compatible replacement or a current equivalent that fits your installation.

Questions about 86BH5C

Is the LG 86BH5C still sold by LG?

No. LG has discontinued the 86BH5C, so it is no longer in the manufacturer's current range. SmartRooms Qatar supplies by quotation, so if your corridor, lobby or frontage needs this stretched format, request a quote for a current equivalent or a compatible replacement. The quotation will set out the model, the estimated lead time and the manufacturer warranty cover before you commit.

What is the 86BH5C best used for in a Doha hotel?

It suits a hotel lobby in The Pearl or a serviced apartment reception, where a wide, short screen can carry arrival messages, transfer times and guest information above a check-in desk. Its 3,840 x 600 panel and 500 cd/m2 typical brightness suit a well-lit lobby. The OPS slot lets a compatible media player sit inside the display. Plan the content as one long strip so text is not distorted.

Will the screen be readable in a bright West Bay office with glass walls?

Typical brightness is 500 cd/m2 and the minimum rating is 400 cd/m2, so check glare before fixing the position. Place the screen away from direct sun through glass and avoid facing windows, which is common in West Bay towers with floor-to-ceiling glazing. A site survey shows where the screen will sit relative to windows and lights, and the SmartRooms Qatar team can advise whether that location suits this panel.

What content resolution should we prepare for the 86BH5C?

The panel has a 3,840 x 600 UHD resolution, so artwork should be produced at that exact format rather than cropped from a standard 16:9 or 4K file. Designers working in Arabic and English side by side should confirm that both scripts sit clearly within the strip at the planned viewing distance, and that logos and text keep their proportions in the stretched layout.

Can we plug a media player into it, or do we need a separate box?

The 86BH5C is listed as OPS compatible, so a compatible OPS media player can be installed in its OPS slot. The data also states that an external media player cannot be attached, so a separate box is not an option. The KT-OPSA OPS kit is listed among the optional accessories. Confirm the kit and player with your quotation to match your content and network needs.

Which software works with the 86BH5C?

The source data lists compatibility with SuperSign-w lite and SuperSign-c. If your organisation already manages screens with one of these, the 86BH5C can join that existing setup. Check network settings, user access and scheduling with your IT team before ordering so the display is ready when it is installed.

Can it run in Qatar's summer heat, for example in a mall atrium?

No, it should not be placed in an open atrium. The rated operating temperature is 0°C to 40°C, with humidity between 10% and 80%. Summer temperatures in Qatar can exceed 45°C, so the display must sit inside an air-conditioned space. Avoid loading bays, semi-open colonnades and positions exposed to dust storms, and confirm room conditions with the SmartRooms Qatar team during the site survey.

Does the built-in power supply work with Qatar's mains?

The power supply is built in and rated for 100-240V at 50/60Hz. Qatar mains is 240 V at 50 Hz, which falls within that range. The accessory list includes a power cord. Confirm the plug type on the quotation so the cord matches the BS 1363 (Type G) sockets used across Qatar.

What comes in the box with the 86BH5C?

The basic package includes a remote controller with two batteries, a power cord, a 3-metre DP cable and a 3-metre RS-232C cable. The owner's manual is provided as a website download rather than printed. Mounting hardware is not listed in the source data, and no stand is available for this model, so plan the wall or structural mount separately before ordering.

How do we mount a 20.5 kg, 86-inch panel in a private school corridor in Al Wakrah?

Because no stand is available for the 86BH5C, the panel must be wall or structure mounted. The head weighs 20.5 kg and measures 2,158.3 x 348.5 x 81.7 mm, so the wall needs checking for load and the bracket must be sized for the job. A free site survey confirms wall construction, cable routes and power points before the corridor is booked for installation.

Can the display be controlled remotely from a ministry's IT system?

Yes. The data lists RS232C and RJ45 control ports, plus an IR+B receiver for the remote and a pixel sensor. An IT team in a Doha government ministry can use RS232C or RJ45 to link power and input commands to a building management system, while staff keep the remote for local changes. Confirm the integration method and network requirements with your IT team before ordering.

Can a government office order several units through an LPO?

Yes. SmartRooms Qatar supplies government ministries and authorities against purchase orders and tenders, including Monaqasat, and accepts payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. For a multi-unit order, name the LG 86BH5C on the LPO and ask the quotation to specify a current equivalent if the original model is no longer available. Delivery covers all eight municipalities of Qatar.
