Name: LG 86UP5Q-EQ 86-inch UHD Digital Signage Display
Brand: LG
SKU: lg-86up5q-eq
Availability: Discontinued

Overview

The LG 86UP5Q-EQ is an 86-inch UHD digital signage display with 3840x2160 resolution, webOS 8.0 and built-in Wi-Fi, suited to air-conditioned lobbies, corridors and meeting areas. It schedules content locally, supports video wall layouts through tile mode and includes two 10W speakers. LG has discontinued this model, so Qatar buyers should request a quote for a current equivalent or a compatible replacement.

What the 86UP5Q-EQ is and why it still matters

The LG 86UP5Q-EQ is an 86-inch UHD digital signage display from the UP5Q series, built to show promotional loops, wayfinding, announcements and information screens in busy indoor areas. Its panel runs at 3840x2160 resolution and 60Hz through HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, so a media player or PC can deliver sharp 4K content. LG has discontinued this model. This page is written for organisations that already run one, buyers comparing it with newer displays, and anyone who needs a like-for-like replacement.

Connections, control and scheduled content without a PC

The rear panel offers three HDMI inputs, one DisplayPort input, an RJ45 LAN port, an IR input and two USB ports, one USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0. RS232C input and output sockets let a control system pass commands from screen to screen, and an audio output feeds an external sound system. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are built in, and the display stores content in 32GB of internal memory.

Local scheduling: the screen plays its own timetable, so it does not need a PC running beside it all day.
USB playback: a USB drive can be plugged in to start content without any network connection.
Compatible management platforms: SuperSign CMS, SuperSign Control+, SuperSign WB, SuperSign Cloud, Mobile CMS and Connected Care are all listed, running on webOS 8.0.
Remote monitoring: SNMP, Wake on LAN, HDMI-CEC and Crestron Connected support building automation and fleet monitoring.

Video walls and where it fits across Qatar

The 13.4 mm bezel keeps seams narrow when several panels sit side by side, and tile mode can span layouts up to 15 by 15 displays. PIP and PBP let one screen show more than one source, with PBP listed at four windows. Three places where this size works well:

A government office lobby in Msheireb showing service directions and visitor announcements.
A corridor in a private school in Al Wakrah displaying timetables and event notices.
A hotel lobby in West Bay presenting event information, with a tiled group of panels for larger boards.

Heat, dust and placement in Qatar

Outdoor summer temperatures in Qatar often pass 45°C, and this model is rated to operate between 0°C and 40°C with 10% to 80% humidity. That makes it a fit for air-conditioned lobbies, corridors and meeting rooms, not for open courtyards, sun-facing facades or unconditioned storerooms. The IP5X rating indicates protection against dust ingress, which helps on dusty sites, but it is not an outdoor rating. Confirm the room temperature with your facilities team before choosing a position.

Planning the mount, power and order

The head weighs 53.0 kg and the packed unit weighs 66.7 kg, so check the wall or stud structure before installation. The VESA pattern is 600 x 400 mm, and the LSW640A/B wall mount is available as an option. The built-in power supply accepts 100-240 V at 50/60 Hz. The source lists typical draw as 205 W and maximum draw as 297 W but marks these figures as to be confirmed, so check them against the final datasheet when planning circuits.

SmartRooms Qatar provides a free site survey before wall mounting a panel of this size, professional installation and delivery to all eight municipalities of Qatar. Schools and government bodies ordering several units can raise one purchase order (LPO) or respond to a government tender, including Monaqasat. Request a quote for a current equivalent or a compatible replacement, and our team usually returns quotations within one working day.

Questions about 86UP5Q-EQ

Is the LG 86UP5Q-EQ still a current model?

No. LG has discontinued the 86UP5Q-EQ, so it is no longer a current model from the manufacturer. If your organisation already owns one, or you are comparing it with newer displays, SmartRooms Qatar can quote a current equivalent or a compatible replacement. We will check size, inputs and mounting pattern against this model. Request a quote and quotations are usually returned within one working day.

What resolution and video inputs does it have?

It is a 3840x2160 UHD display. Three HDMI inputs run at 3840x2160 and 60Hz with HDCP 2.2 and 1.4 support, and one DisplayPort input runs at the same resolution and refresh rate with HDCP 2.2 and 1.3. That covers a standard media player, laptop or PC feeding 4K content. Check that your source device supports 4K at 60Hz before ordering, especially if your current media player is older.

Can it play content without a PC connected all the time?

Yes. The display supports local content scheduling, can play content from a USB drive using plug and play, and stores material in 32GB of internal memory. A private school in Al Wakrah could run its daily timetable and event notices from the screen itself. To change content across several screens from one place, pair the displays with one of the compatible content management platforms.

Which content management software works with it?

The source data lists compatibility with SuperSign CMS, SuperSign Control+, SuperSign WB, SuperSign Cloud, Mobile CMS and Connected Care, and the display runs webOS 8.0. Choose the platform that matches your IT policy and network setup. The SmartRooms Qatar team can advise which option fits your environment before you place an order, so the screens are configured correctly from day one.

Can I build a video wall with this model?

Yes. The 13.4 mm bezel keeps seams narrow, tile mode supports layouts up to 15 by 15 displays, and PIP and PBP let each screen show multiple sources. A hotel lobby in West Bay could tile a group of these panels for an events board. Plan each unit's position during a site survey, and check the cabling and source feeds for every tile, since a wall multiplies the inputs you need.

Will it cope with Qatar's summer heat?

Only in an air-conditioned space. The operating range is 0°C to 40°C with 10% to 80% humidity, while outdoor summer temperatures in Qatar often exceed 45°C. Install it in lobbies, classrooms or meeting rooms with controlled temperature, not in open courtyards, sun-facing walls or unconditioned storerooms. The IP5X rating means protection against dust ingress, not outdoor use. Confirm room conditions with your facilities team.

Does the on-screen menu support Arabic?

Yes. The on-screen display languages listed in the source include Arabic alongside English and many other languages. This suits offices and schools in Doha that work in Arabic and English side by side, since staff can set up the display in Arabic while visitors read English signage. The menu language does not change the language of the content you publish, so check text and fonts in your playlists before going live.

What should I check before wall mounting it?

The head weighs 53.0 kg and the packed unit weighs 66.7 kg, with a 600 x 400 VESA pattern. Confirm the wall or stud structure can carry that load and that the bracket sits level. SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey before installation, and the optional LSW640A/B wall mount is available. Plan for at least two people to lift the panel safely during installation.

Is an 86-inch panel the right size for a meeting room or lecture hall?

An 86-inch panel suits a large boardroom, lecture hall or wide atrium where viewers sit several metres away. In a small meeting room, a smaller size from the same series may fit better, and the source data lists the series in 43, 49, 55, 65 and 75 inch sizes. Measure your viewing distance and wall width first, then request a quote so the size matches the room.

Where does this display work best in a Qatari workplace or school?

It works best in indoor spaces with controlled temperature and a clear wall, such as a government office lobby in Msheireb showing service directions, a school corridor in Al Wakrah displaying timetables, or a reception area in a serviced apartment in The Pearl showing guest information. Define the exact room during the site survey so the panel is positioned for the right viewing distance and lighting.

What accessories come with it?

The basic package includes a remote controller with two batteries, a power cord, a quick setup guide, a regulation information book, a phone-to-RS232C adapter and cable holders. The LSW640A/B wall mount is optional and sold separately. Before ordering extra cables, check that the included cable holders suit your routing plan, especially for a wall with several panels.

Can we order several units through an LPO or government tender?

Yes. SmartRooms Qatar sells by quotation and accepts purchase orders (LPOs), government tenders including Monaqasat, and payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. A school or ministry fitting out several lobbies can raise one LPO for the full set, and each unit can be installed after a free site survey. Delivery covers all eight municipalities of Qatar. Send quantities and site locations with your request.
