88BH7G

A 32:9 bar format for long, narrow walls

The LG 88BH7G is an 88-inch stretched signage display built around a 32:9 IPS panel at 3,840 x 1,080 pixels. Its specification lists 700 nit typical brightness, 1,100:1 contrast, 8 ms grey-to-grey response and 10-bit colour, which is 1.07 billion shades. The head measures 2,158.3 mm wide, 611.2 mm high and 84.8 mm deep, so it suits walls where a conventional 16:9 screen would leave dead space.

LG has discontinued this model, so these notes are written for owners, for buyers comparing wide-format displays, and for anyone seeking a replacement.

What the wide format does for content

A bar display gives one line of sight room for a timetable, a live feed and a promotional message at once. The panel runs in landscape or portrait, and the on-screen menu adjusts when it is used upright. Picture-by-picture mode divides the screen into up to four parts with no bezel between them, so one unit can carry four separate messages. For larger walls, the display can be tiled in configurations up to 15 x 15.

Connectivity, control and software

• Video inputs: three HDMI ports (HDCP 2.2 and 1.4), one DisplayPort input (HDCP 2.2 and 1.3) and one DVI-D input (HDCP 1.4).
• Other ports: an audio input, two USB 2.0 Type A ports, a DisplayPort output and an audio output.
• Control: RS-232C in and out, RJ45 LAN in and out, and an IR input.
• Media player: OPS-compatible in piggyback form, but OPS power is not built in. The OPS kit KT-OPSF is listed as an optional accessory.

LAN daisy chaining lets one controller send commands, check status and update firmware across several displays together. Supported software includes SuperSign CMS, SuperSign Control and Control+, SuperSign WB and SuperSign Media Editor. The optional LG ConnectedCare cloud service, for remote status and fault diagnosis, depends on region.

Where it fits in Qatar and what to plan for

In Doha, the 88BH7G suits several recurring situations. A government service hall in West Bay could show queue numbers, office hours and announcements across one strip above the counters. A hotel lobby in Msheireb could show arrivals and amenities on the same line. A shopping mall in Lusail could mount a bar screen above a store entrance, using four-part mode for separate promotions without extra panels.

Heat is the first planning point. The operating range is 0 °C to 40 °C with 10 to 80 percent humidity, while Qatar summers can pass 45 °C. Install it in an air-conditioned interior that stays within that range, avoid unshaded external walls and sun-facing atriums, and confirm the environment with the SmartRooms Qatar team before installation.

Power draw is 450 W typical and 530 W maximum, with a heat output of about 1,535 to 1,808 BTU per hour that the room cooling must handle. The built-in power supply accepts AC 100-240 V at 50/60 Hz, which covers Qatar's 240 V, 50 Hz mains. A power cord is included, but confirm the plug type for your site before ordering.

Mounting and planning

The head weighs 33.9 kg and uses a 600 x 400 mm VESA mounting interface. The bezel is 4.4 mm on the left and right and 5.9 mm at top and bottom. Before fixing a bracket, check the wall structure, its load rating and the cable routes for DisplayPort, RS-232C and LAN. SmartRooms Qatar offers free site surveys, which is the right time to make these checks.

For government and school buyers, the team can usually issue a quotation within one working day, accept purchase orders and tenders, and deliver to all eight municipalities of Qatar with professional installation. Because the 88BH7G is discontinued, request a quote for a current equivalent or compatible replacement, and include the number of units, mounting position and inputs you need.
