A discontinued 50-inch Teams collaboration board

The Microsoft Surface Hub 2S 50-inch is a self-contained interactive display built for meeting rooms that run Microsoft Teams. Microsoft has discontinued this model and points customers to Surface Hub 3 as its successor. SmartRooms Qatar supplies this unit to organisations that already run it, and to buyers who need a replacement or want to compare it with newer boards before committing.

Display, camera and audio in one frame

The panel is a 3:2 PixelSense IPS LCD with a 3840 x 2560 (4K UHD) resolution, anti-glare finish and a 15.5 mm border. Typical brightness is 350 nits and typical contrast is 1200:1, with a stated minimum of 1000:1. A 4K camera connects over USB-C with a 90-degree horizontal field of view. Two eight-element microphone arrays are certified for Microsoft Teams up to 2.3 metres away, and three-way front-facing stereo speakers handle the sound.

Computing, connections and software

Processor and memory: quad-core 8th Generation Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD and Intel UHD Graphics 620.
Video inputs and outputs: HDMI 2.0 input with HDCP 2.2 and 1.4, USB-C with DisplayPort input, and a Mini-DisplayPort 1.2 output.
Network and ports: RJ45 gigabit Ethernet, USB-A, and four USB-C ports on the display.
Wireless: Wi-Fi 5 (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac), Bluetooth 4.1 and Miracast.
Software: Windows 10, Microsoft Teams for Surface Hub, Skype for Business, Microsoft Whiteboard, Microsoft Office (Mobile) and Microsoft Power BI.
Sensing and input: Doppler occupancy sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope and an active Surface Hub Pen.

Where it fits in Qatar

A 50-inch board suits rooms where a small team needs a shared screen. In West Bay, a meeting room for a dozen people can hold a Teams call with colleagues in Europe while the group marks up a shared document on the glass. In Education City, a university seminar room used for tutorials and small workshops benefits from the built-in camera and microphones. A consultancy office in Al Sadd can review drafts in English and Arabic side by side on one panel.

What to plan before you order

The panel measures 741 mm x 1,097 mm x 76 mm and weighs 28 kg (61.6 lb), so a wall fixing must be checked for load and position. Shipping weight is 36.77 kg. The rated input is 50/60 Hz, 110/220 V nominal with a 90-265 V maximum range, and the unit draws 445 W in operation (495 W surge) with 5 W standby. It produces 1,518 BTU/hr of heat, which should be included in the room's cooling plan. The box includes a 2.5 m AC power cable, so confirm the plug type for BS 1363 sockets with our team. The manufacturer's data we hold does not give an operating temperature range, so confirm the room conditions before installation. The warranty is a one-year limited hardware warranty. Free site surveys are available before installation.

Because this model is discontinued, send us your room size and the platform you use, and we will quote a current equivalent or a compatible replacement. Request a quote from SmartRooms Qatar and we will reply with a quotation usually within one working day.

Questions about Surface Hub 2S 50"

Is the Microsoft Surface Hub 2S 50-inch still available new?

Microsoft has discontinued this model and points customers to Surface Hub 3 as its successor. SmartRooms Qatar can quote a current equivalent or a compatible replacement for your meeting room. Send us your room size and the Teams setup you use, and we will usually send a quotation within one working day.

What is the Surface Hub 2S 50-inch designed for?

It is a Teams collaboration board for meeting rooms, combining a 4K touch display, a camera, microphones and speakers in one unit. It suits small to mid-sized rooms where a team needs to join calls and mark up shared content on the screen. The panel is a 3:2 format, which many teams use for document review.

What resolution and brightness does the panel offer?

The panel has a 3840 x 2560 (4K UHD) resolution with an anti-glare IPS LCD finish. Typical brightness is 350 nits and typical contrast is 1200:1, with a stated minimum of 1000:1. Bright windows in a Doha office may still need blinds or careful placement to keep the screen readable.

How does the 50-inch model differ from the 85-inch version?

The 50-inch unit measures 741 mm x 1,097 mm x 76 mm and weighs 28 kg, while the 85-inch measures 1,130 mm x 1,959 mm x 85.6 mm and weighs 84 kg. The 50-inch uses a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 3840 x 2560 panel, while the 85-inch uses 16:9 at 3840 x 2160. The smaller unit suits compact rooms.

Can it be wall mounted in an office in Doha or Lusail?

It can be wall mounted, but the 28 kg weight means the wall, fixings and position need checking first. SmartRooms Qatar offers free site surveys before installation. The manufacturer also publishes site readiness and mounting guides, which our installers can follow alongside your building's construction details.

Which ports and connections are included?

The display has an HDMI 2.0 input with HDCP 2.2 and 1.4 support, a USB-C input with DisplayPort, a Mini-DisplayPort 1.2 output, an RJ45 gigabit Ethernet port and a USB-A port. Four USB-C ports sit on the display itself for peripherals. Wireless is Wi-Fi 5 with Bluetooth 4.1 and Miracast.

Does it run Microsoft Teams without extra software?

The software list includes Windows 10, Microsoft Teams for Surface Hub, Skype for Business, Microsoft Whiteboard, Microsoft Office (Mobile) and Microsoft Power BI. Because Windows 10 is part of the platform, confirm the current software support position with the SmartRooms Qatar team before you commit to a purchase.

Will the power supply work with Qatar's 240 V mains?

The rated input is 50/60 Hz at 110/220 V nominal, with a 90-265 V maximum range, so Qatar's 240 V supply sits within the stated range. The box includes a 2.5 m AC power cable. Confirm the plug type with our team for BS 1363 sockets. Operating draw is 445 W, with 5 W maximum standby.

How should we plan cooling for a small room in summer?

The unit produces 1,518 BTU/hr of heat during operation, which should be added to the room's cooling load, especially in a windowless room in July or August. The manufacturer data we hold does not list an operating temperature range, so ask SmartRooms Qatar to confirm the room conditions before installation.

What warranty applies to this model?

The unit carries a one-year limited hardware warranty from the manufacturer. Ask our team to confirm the warranty position for the exact unit or quotation you are considering, particularly if you are buying a unit that is no longer in current production.

Can a university in Education City order several units under one purchase order?

Yes. SmartRooms Qatar accepts purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including Monaqasat, and accepts payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. Because the model is discontinued, we will confirm availability for each unit when we quote and recommend a current equivalent if stock is limited.
