Availability: Discontinued

Overview

The Promethean AP7-A65 is a 65-inch 4K interactive display from the ActivPanel Cobalt range, now discontinued by the manufacturer. It offers a 3840 x 2160 touch panel, 20 continuous touch points, two battery-less pens and built-in Android Oreo 8, and it connects to Windows, macOS, Linux and Chrome OS computers. It suits smaller classrooms and meeting rooms across Qatar, and it is a practical reference for organisations that already own one or need a like-for-like replacement.

What the AP7-A65 is and why replacement planning matters

The Promethean AP7-A65 is the 65-inch member of the ActivPanel Cobalt line within the ActivPanel Elements series. The manufacturer has discontinued this model, so this page is written for schools, offices and integrators that already run it, buyers comparing it with newer panels, and anyone searching for a like-for-like replacement. Request a quote and the SmartRooms Qatar team will reply with a quotation for a current equivalent or a compatible replacement, usually within one working day.

Picture and touch figures that matter in a room

The panel is a 4K UHD TFT LCD with direct LED backlighting. It delivers 3840 x 2160 resolution at 60 Hz across an active area of 1429 x 804 mm (56.3 x 31.7 in). Brightness is rated at 350 cd/m2, with a 4000:1 contrast ratio and a 178-degree viewing angle. The built-in ambient light sensor helps the screen respond to room lighting, and the heat-tempered anti-glare glass carries 9H pencil hardness.

Touch uses Vellum writing technology with 20 continuous touch points and 1 mm touch accuracy. Two battery-less pens with 3 mm tips come in the box, and the panel distinguishes pen input from finger touch and ignores palm contact while writing. An integrated full-length pen tray keeps the pens within reach at the front of the room.

Built-in Android, ports and network connections

The unit runs Android Oreo 8 with 3 GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage and a quad-core processor, so applications can run on the screen without a connected computer. It has one OPS slot for an external computing module and a Wi-Fi module supporting 802.11a/b/g/n/ac (2x2), which is included in the box. Video inputs include two rear HDMI 2.0 ports, one front HDMI 2.0 port, one DisplayPort 1.2 input and a VGA input. USB-A and USB touch ports are provided at both the front and rear. A 10/100 Mbps LAN port, RS-232 control and Wake-on-LAN support central management, and remote over-the-air updates are supported.

Inputs: HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA and USB touch connections for laptops and video conferencing systems.
Management: Promethean Panel Management and remote updates for multi-room fleets.
Audio: two front-facing 15 W speakers and a 3.5 mm microphone input.

Installation, power and heat in Qatar

Plan for a panel measuring 1536 x 960 x 90 mm, weighing 46 kg net and 65.3 kg packed. It uses a 600 x 400 mm VESA mount point, and four M6 screws are supplied. Because the load is significant, we recommend a site survey before wall-mounting to confirm wall structure, cable routes and mounting height. The manufacturer expects a qualified installer to fit the unit, and SmartRooms Qatar arranges professional installation.

The power input is rated 100V to 240V AC, with a maximum consumption of 235 W and standby below 0.5 W. The box includes a 3 m regional power cable, and this model is listed as Energy Star certified. Confirm that the plug matches Qatar's BS 1363 (Type G) sockets when requesting your quote. The operating range is 0°C to 40°C with 20 to 80 percent non-condensing humidity. Qatar summers can exceed 45°C, so install the panel in an air-conditioned room away from direct sunlight and dust, and avoid outdoor or unconditioned spaces.

Where it fits in Qatar

A primary or secondary classroom in Al Wakrah: a 65-inch screen gives students a clear view in a room that does not need a larger display, with touch annotation over any source.
A meeting room in West Bay: a team connects a laptop by HDMI and joins calls with colleagues abroad, using the wired LAN port for a stable network connection.
A training room at a centre in Education City: the trainer writes directly on the glass with the battery-less pens, and the Android system runs lesson files without a PC.

Send us your room dimensions, viewing distance and connection requirements, and request a quote. SmartRooms Qatar supplies to all eight municipalities of Qatar, provides free site surveys and installation, and accepts purchase orders, LPOs and government tenders including Monaqasat. Warranty follows the manufacturer's terms, which vary by region, so ask for the exact terms with your quotation.

Questions about AP7-A65

Is the Promethean AP7-A65 still sold by the manufacturer?

No. Promethean has discontinued the AP7-A65, which belongs to the ActivPanel Elements series, so new units may not be available from the manufacturer. SmartRooms Qatar can quote for a current equivalent or a compatible replacement, and our team will check the match against your room size, mounting plan and connection needs before you commit. Existing owners can also ask us what is needed to keep a unit running reliably.

Who is the AP7-A65 best suited to?

It suits classrooms, seminar rooms and small meeting rooms where a 65-inch screen gives a clear view without dominating the space. In Qatar that covers a classroom in a private school in Al Wakrah, a huddle room in a West Bay office or a training room in Education City. The 4K resolution and touch input support both presentations and collaborative lessons.

How bright is the screen in a room with windows?

The panel is rated at 350 cd/m2 with a 4000:1 contrast ratio, and it includes an ambient light sensor and heat-tempered anti-glare glass. These features help in daylight, but a room with strong sun through large windows still benefits from blinds and careful placement. If the room is glazed on one side, request a site survey so glare can be assessed for the panel's orientation before installation.

Can it be installed in a hot, unconditioned space such as a covered outdoor area?

No. The operating range is 0°C to 40°C with 20 to 80 percent non-condensing humidity, and Qatar summers can exceed 45°C. Install it in an air-conditioned room away from direct sunlight and dust, and keep it out of outdoor, semi-open or unconditioned spaces. The storage range is wider, but that does not make the panel suitable for operation in those conditions.

Which computers and operating systems can connect to it?

The source data lists support for Windows 8 to 10, OS X 10.8 to 10.11, macOS Sierra 10.12.1 or later, Linux Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and Chrome OS. The panel also runs built-in Android Oreo 8, so applications can run on the display without a computer. Check your laptop or PC operating system version against this list before requesting a quote for a classroom or boardroom.

Do we need a separate computer with this panel?

Not necessarily. The panel includes an Android Oreo 8 system with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage, which handles lesson apps, the browser and media players. It also has one OPS slot for an external computing module if you need a PC-grade system inside the panel. The packed contents list does not include an OPS module, so include the module in your quotation request if you need one.

Which inputs are available for a meeting room that connects to teams abroad?

The panel has two rear HDMI 2.0 inputs, one front HDMI 2.0 input, one DisplayPort 1.2 input and a VGA input with audio. It also provides a 10/100 Mbps LAN port and USB-A and USB touch ports at the front and rear. For a video conference, connect the codec or laptop by HDMI and use the LAN port for a wired network connection.

Can the panel be wall-mounted, and how heavy is it?

Yes. It uses a 600 x 400 mm VESA mount point, and the package includes four M6 screws and a wall mount. The panel weighs 46 kg net and 65.3 kg packed, so wall fixings and the wall structure must suit that load. SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey before wall-mounting, and installation is carried out by a qualified installer.

Will the power supply work with Qatar's voltage and sockets?

The power input is rated 100V to 240V AC, with a maximum consumption of 235 W and standby below 0.5 W. The box includes a 3 m regional power cable. Because plug types depend on the regional cable supplied, confirm with the SmartRooms Qatar team that it matches Qatar's BS 1363 Type G sockets before installation is scheduled.

How many pens are included, and how does touch handle a palm?

Two battery-less pens with 3 mm tips are included, and an integrated full-length pen tray holds them. The touch system supports 20 continuous touch points with 1 mm accuracy, distinguishes pen input from finger touch and includes palm detection. A presenter can rest a hand on the glass while writing. For rooms with several presenters, plan for one pen per person.

Can a school or government entity order it on a purchase order?

Yes. SmartRooms Qatar accepts purchase orders (LPOs), government tenders including Monaqasat, and payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. Because the AP7-A65 is discontinued, send us the number of units, the room list and any replacement specification with your request. We will quote for the closest current equivalent that matches the purchase order requirements.
