Name: Promethean ActivPanel 9 AP9-A65 65-inch Interactive Display
Brand: Promethean
SKU: promethean-ap9-a65
Availability: Discontinued

Overview

The Promethean ActivPanel 9 AP9-A65 is a 65-inch 4K UHD interactive flat panel with 20 continuous touch points, two battery-less pens and an Android-based ActivPanel OS. Its 400 cd/m² display, dual 21 W speakers and OPS slot suit smaller classrooms and meeting rooms across Qatar. The manufacturer has discontinued this model, so we quote current equivalents or compatible replacements on request.

A 65-inch 4K panel for smaller classrooms and meeting rooms

The Promethean ActivPanel 9 AP9-A65 is a 65-inch interactive display with a 3840 x 2160 UHD resolution at 60 Hz. Its TFT LCD panel uses a direct LED backlight, a 16:9 aspect ratio and a display area of 1429 x 804 mm. Of the three ActivPanel 9 sizes, it is the smallest, which makes it the practical choice for rooms where a 75-inch or 86-inch screen would overwhelm the wall.

Discontinued model: what owners and buyers should know

The manufacturer has announced the end of sale for the AP9-A65, so this model is discontinued. Organisations that already run AP9-A65 panels and need matching units, and buyers comparing it with newer models, should send us their requirements. SmartRooms Qatar will quote a current equivalent or a compatible replacement and confirm its specifications before you order.

Touch, pens and classroom software

The panel supports 20 continuous touch points with 1 mm touch accuracy, a 200 Hz scan rate and a 10 ms response time. Palm rejection and palm erase help when a teacher rests a hand on the glass while writing, and pen and touch differentiation lets the panel tell a pen stroke from a finger. Two battery-less pens with 3 mm tips come with the unit and clip into an integrated full-length pen tray.

The ActivInspire Professional licence is included. The preloaded classroom apps cover a whiteboard, annotation, timer, spinner, screen capture and recording, screen sharing, a browser, a PDF reader and a media player.

Computing, connectivity and power

ActivPanel OS runs on an Android base with 4 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage.
Video inputs include an OPS slot, two rear and one front HDMI 2.0 inputs, and a DisplayPort 1.2 input.
Networking provides 1 Gbps LAN in and out, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax with dual band support, and Bluetooth 5.0.
Power is rated at 100 to 240 V AC, with a typical draw of 120 W and standby below 0.5 W. The fanless design is quiet in a lesson or a board meeting.

The 65-inch model is Energy Star certified. A regional power cable is included, and the plug type should be confirmed with your quotation before ordering.

Where the AP9-A65 fits in Qatar

A private school in Al Wakrah refitting several classrooms can use the 65-inch size in rooms of up to a few dozen students, with the pen tray and two pens in each room. A consultancy in West Bay running small meeting rooms can connect laptops through HDMI or USB-C and join calls to teams abroad over the wired LAN port. A training centre in Education City can use the OPS slot to fit a compute module that suits its own software.

The operating range is 0 °C to 40 °C with 20% to 80% non-condensing humidity. Qatar summers regularly exceed 45 °C, so the panel belongs in an air-conditioned indoor room, away from direct sun and dust from outside.

Planning the installation

Panel size: 1509 x 946 x 113 mm, net weight 43.2 kg, packed weight 53.5 kg.
Mounting: VESA point of 600 x 400 mm with four M6 screws included.
Accessories: a mini PC bracket and two cable management hooks for the 65-inch model.

Because the panel is heavy, we recommend a free site survey before wall mounting, and installation should be carried out by a qualified installer. We deliver to all eight municipalities of Qatar. Request a quote for the AP9-A65 or a current replacement, and our team will confirm the configuration, delivery and installation plan with you.

Questions about AP9-A65

Is the Promethean AP9-A65 still available to order?

No. The manufacturer has announced the end of sale for the AP9-A65, so the model is discontinued. SmartRooms Qatar will quote a current equivalent or a compatible replacement on request, and the quotation will confirm its specifications before you order.

Who is the 65-inch AP9-A65 best suited to?

It suits rooms where a larger panel would be too big, such as a primary classroom in a private school in Al Khor or a huddle room in a government office. Its 65-inch 4K screen at 3840 x 2160 is clear for small groups viewing from a short distance.

How bright is the display and how does it handle glare?

The display is rated at 400 cd/m² with a 5000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. The bonded 4 mm tempered glass is anti-glare and anti-fingerprint, with 9H pencil hardness. An ambient light sensor is included, which helps when a room has mixed daylight and lights on.

Can the panel run in a hot room in Doha during summer?

The operating range is 0 °C to 40 °C with 20% to 80% non-condensing humidity. Doha summers can exceed 45 °C, so install the panel indoors in an air-conditioned room and keep it away from direct sun through windows.

How many people can write on the screen at the same time?

The panel supports 20 continuous touch points, so several students can work at the board together. Palm rejection and palm erase reduce accidental marks when a hand rests on the glass, and pen and touch differentiation lets the panel distinguish a pen from a finger.

What comes in the box with the AP9-A65?

The box includes the panel, a remote control with two batteries, two battery-less pens, a 3 m HDMI cable, a 3 m USB-A to USB-B cable, a 2 m USB-C cable, a 3 m regional power cable, four M6 VESA screws, a mini PC bracket and cable management hooks. The ActivInspire Professional licence is also included.

Which ports do I need to connect laptops and a PC in a meeting room?

The panel has an OPS slot, two rear and one front HDMI 2.0 inputs, a DisplayPort 1.2 input, and a USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port rated for 60 W Power Delivery. It also has USB-B touch connections and a 1 Gbps LAN port, so a laptop can share content and touch input over one cable.

Does it support Wi-Fi 6 and wired networking for video calls?

Yes. It supports IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax Wi-Fi with dual band operation and Wi-Fi 6, plus 1 Gbps LAN in and out and Bluetooth 5.0. A meeting room in West Bay that joins calls with teams abroad can use the wired LAN port for a more stable connection.

Which operating systems can connect to the AP9-A65?

The source data lists support for Windows 7 to 11, macOS 10.8 to 10.11 and macOS Sierra 10.12.1 or later, Linux Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, and Chrome OS. The panel itself runs ActivPanel OS, which is Android-based, with 4 GB RAM and 32 GB storage.

Can the 65-inch panel be wall-mounted in a Doha meeting room?

Yes, it uses a 600 x 400 mm VESA pattern. The panel measures 1509 x 946 x 113 mm and weighs 43.2 kg net, or 53.5 kg packed. Because of its weight, SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey to confirm wall structure and cable routing before installation by a qualified installer.

What is the power consumption and energy rating?

The 65-inch model is Energy Star certified. Typical power draw is 120 W, and standby consumption is 0.5 W or less. The fanless design removes fan noise, which suits a quiet classroom or boardroom in a building that runs on a tight energy budget.

Can I order more units to match AP9-A65 panels already installed in my organisation?

Yes, but since the model is discontinued, a current equivalent or compatible replacement may be the better option. Schools and government bodies can issue a purchase order or LPO, and SmartRooms Qatar will confirm compatibility with your existing setup in the quotation, which is usually issued within one working day.
