Overview

The Promethean AP9-B65 is a 65-inch 4K ActivPanel 9 Premium interactive panel, and the manufacturer has discontinued it. It offers a 3840 x 2160 display, 20 touch points, four battery-less pens and an OPS slot. Its size suits smaller classrooms and meeting rooms across Qatar. Owners and buyers wanting a replacement can request a quote for a current equivalent from SmartRooms Qatar.

What the AP9-B65 is and why it is discontinued

The Promethean AP9-B65 is the 65-inch model in the ActivPanel 9 Premium series, a 4K interactive display designed for classrooms and meeting rooms. The manufacturer has discontinued this model and announced the end of sale. Organisations in Qatar that already run one, or are comparing it with newer panels before buying, should plan around that. SmartRooms Qatar can quote a current equivalent or a compatible replacement.

Display and touch figures that matter

The screen is a 65-inch TFT LCD with direct LED backlighting, a 3840 x 2160 resolution at 60 Hz and a 16:9 display area of 1429 x 804 mm. Rated brightness is 400 cd/m², with a contrast ratio of 5000:1 dynamic and 1200:1 static. A 4 mm heat tempered, anti-glare bonded glass front resists fingerprints, and an ambient light sensor adjusts the picture to the lighting in the room.

Touch uses Vellum technology with 20 continuous touch points, 1 mm touch accuracy and a 200 Hz scan rate. Palm rejection works for writing and non-writing hands, and the panel tells pen input apart from finger touch. The box contains four battery-less pens and a block eraser, with an integrated full-length pen tray for storage.

Connectivity and software for daily use

The panel has one OPS slot for a plug-in computer module, two rear HDMI inputs, one front HDMI input, a DisplayPort 1.2 input and a USB-C port with 100 W power delivery. Wired networking is 1 Gbps, and wireless covers 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax with Bluetooth 5.0. ActivPanel OS runs on an Android base with 64 GB of internal storage and 6.5 GB of RAM on this 65-inch model, and ActivInspire Professional is included.

Where it fits in Qatar

A classroom refit in Al Wakrah: a private school replacing old boards in standard-sized rooms, where a 65-inch screen is readable from the front rows.
A seminar room in Education City: a training centre running small, interactive sessions with pens and touch for group work.
A meeting room in West Bay or Msheireb: an office where staff connect laptops by HDMI or USB-C and share content without moving cables.

What to plan before installation

Operating temperature is 0 °C to 40 °C with 20% to 80% non-condensing humidity. Qatar summers can push outdoor temperatures above 45 °C, so the panel belongs in an air-conditioned room, away from direct sun. The panel measures 1508 x 945 x 85 mm, weighs 44.5 kg without packaging and uses a 600 x 400 mm VESA pattern. Walls need checking first, which is why SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey.

Power input accepts 100 V to 240 V AC, with typical consumption of 111 W and standby at 0.5 W or less. The fanless design keeps the room quiet during lessons. The manufacturer requires installation by a qualified installer, and SmartRooms Qatar provides professional installation. Schools and public bodies can issue an LPO for several units, and quotations are usually returned within one working day.

If you need a current replacement for an AP9-B65 or want to compare options for your room, request a quote from the SmartRooms Qatar team with your room size, mounting plan and port requirements.

Questions about AP9-B65

Is the Promethean AP9-B65 still sold new in Qatar?

The manufacturer has discontinued the AP9-B65 and announced the end of sale, so it is no longer part of the current range. If you already own one, or are comparing it with newer panels, SmartRooms Qatar can quote a current equivalent or a compatible replacement. Send us your room size, mounting plan and port needs, and our team will recommend options for your site in Doha or anywhere else in Qatar.

Which rooms suit a 65-inch AP9-B65?

The 65-inch size suits smaller classrooms, seminar rooms and meeting rooms where the audience sits close to the screen. A training centre in Education City fitting out a seminar room, or a private school in Al Wakrah refreshing a standard classroom, would normally choose this size. Larger lecture halls and boardrooms are usually better served by the 75-inch or 86-inch versions of the same series.

Will the screen be readable in a bright room with large windows?

The panel is rated at 400 cd/m² and has a 4 mm anti-glare, heat tempered bonded glass, plus an ambient light sensor that adjusts the picture to room lighting. Even so, strong daylight reduces contrast on any display, so position the screen away from direct sun and use blinds on west-facing windows, which is common in Doha offices in the afternoon.

Can the AP9-B65 run in Qatar's summer heat?

The operating range is 0 °C to 40 °C with 20% to 80% non-condensing humidity. Outdoor summer temperatures in Qatar can exceed 45 °C, so the panel should only be installed in an air-conditioned room that stays within its range and away from direct sun, glazing or heat sources. Confirm your room's conditions with the SmartRooms Qatar team before installation.

How many people can write on the screen at the same time?

Vellum touch technology supports 20 continuous touch points, with 1 mm touch accuracy and a scan rate of 200 Hz. Four battery-less pens and a block eraser are included, and the panel separates pen input from finger touch, so a resting palm does not leave marks. Pen tip diameter is 3 mm and the eraser is 7 mm, which helps in classroom use.

Which ports does the AP9-B65 have for connecting devices?

The panel has one OPS slot, two rear HDMI inputs and one front HDMI input, a DisplayPort 1.2 input, a USB-C port with 100 W power delivery, and an HDMI output. It also has a VGA input, RS-232 control, 1 Gbps LAN in and out, 3.5 mm audio connections and a microSD slot. Touch USB-B ports are fitted at the front and rear for the touch signal.

Does it work with Windows and Mac laptops?

Yes. The data lists support for Windows 7 to 11, Mac OS 10.8 to 10.11 and macOS Sierra 10.12.1 or later, Linux Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and Chrome OS. Windows gestures and edge swipes are supported. The built-in ActivPanel OS is Android-based, so for Windows software or desktop applications you would connect a computer through the OPS slot or an HDMI input.

What wireless connectivity and power draw should I plan for?

Wi-Fi supports 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax with dual band, and Bluetooth is version 5.0. Typical power consumption is 111 W and standby is 0.5 W or less. The panel is fanless, so it runs without fan noise, and its power input accepts 100 V to 240 V AC. A regional power cable is supplied in the box.

How much wall space and support does the panel need?

The panel measures 1508 x 945 x 85 mm and weighs 44.5 kg net, or 61.5 kg packed. It uses a VESA mount pattern of 600 x 400 mm, and the box includes a wall mount and VESA screws. Because the wall must carry the panel and mount, SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey to check wall construction and cable routes before installation.

Who should install the panel, and is installation included?

The manufacturer states that installation should be carried out by a qualified installer, and that non-compliant installation can affect safety and warranty cover. SmartRooms Qatar provides professional installation across Qatar, and its scope is confirmed in the quotation. The box includes two cable management hooks for this 65-inch model.

Can a school or government office buy several units on a purchase order?

Yes. SmartRooms Qatar accepts purchase orders (LPOs), government tenders including Monaqasat, and payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. A school refreshing several classrooms, or a government department replacing panels across one floor, can send the quantity, room list and mounting details together and receive one quotation, usually within one working day.
