- Connectivity
- VISCA over IP
The Sony SRG-XP1 is a compact 4K60p IP point-of-view remote camera that Sony has discontinued. It delivers 4K 60p video from a 1/1.8-type CMOS sensor, has a horizontal viewing angle of approximately 102°, and carries power, control and video over one Ethernet cable. It suits Qatar classrooms, lecture halls and meeting rooms. Organisations that already own it, or need a current replacement, can request a quote.
What this discontinued Sony camera is
The Sony SRG-XP1 is a compact point-of-view remote camera designed to shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second and stream it over IP. Sony has discontinued the model, which matters if you are planning a new installation, expanding an existing setup or comparing options. SmartRooms Qatar can quote a current equivalent, or a compatible replacement that fits the mounting points, network and control system already in place.
Its small body, measuring 72.4 × 51.2 × 121.7 mm and weighing approximately 0.41 kg (14 oz), lets it sit on a wall, ceiling, tripod or shelf in spaces where a full-size camera would be costly or impractical to install. One camera of this size can cover a teaching position, a presenter area or a back-row view without an operator.
Sensor, lens and low-light figures
A 1/1.8-type CMOS sensor with approximately 8.40 megapixels of effective pixels produces 4K output at 59.94p and 50p, and the signal table also lists 1080p and 720p modes. The horizontal viewing angle is approximately 102°, and the distortion-corrected figure is 85°. Plan around the wider figure for whole-room coverage and the corrected figure when distortion correction is applied.
- Minimum illumination: 0.5 lux at 4K output (50 IRE, 1/30 s)
- Shutter speed: 1/10000 s to 1/1 s
- Zoom: no optical zoom; digital zoom up to 2x and pixel zoom up to 3x
- Minimum object distance: 300 mm at wide and tele settings
Because optical zoom is not available, framing is decided at installation. Mount the camera where it gives the frame you need rather than relying on zoom to correct a poor position later.
Single-cable IP connectivity and outputs
Video, power and camera control share one Ethernet cable, which reduces cabling in rooms where new conduit runs are hard to add. The camera accepts PoE under IEEE 802.3af and draws 12.9 W on PoE input; on DC 12 V it draws 12.5 W. It streams over IP using RTSP, RTMP and SRT, compresses video with H.264 or H.265 in CBR or VBR mode, and is controlled through VISCA over IP or CGI, with 256 presets available.
For local outputs, HDMI and USB 3.0 are both provided, so the picture can go to a local recorder or computer. NDI|HX is supported, but it needs a licence that is sold separately, so include it in the quotation if your production software relies on NDI. A 3.5 mm mini jack takes an external microphone or line-level source with 2-channel audio, which helps lecture recordings sound clear.
Where it fits in Qatar
In Education City, a university or training centre could place one camera at the back of a lecture room and another at the front, both recording a session for students who are off campus. In Al Wakrah, a private school fitting out a new assembly hall could mount a ceiling unit above the stage. In West Bay, a boardroom that regularly connects with teams abroad could use a wall-mounted unit and send its feed across the office network.
Planning the installation
- Book a free site survey to check wall, ceiling and shelf positions before drilling, especially for ceiling mounts.
- Keep the tilt within the rated mounting angle of less than ±45 degrees to the horizontal.
- Check the PoE switch budget, or use the supplied AC adapter, which accepts 100 to 240 V at 50/60 Hz and covers Qatar's 240 V mains. Confirm the plug type with our team.
- Keep the camera in air-conditioned indoor rooms: the operating range is 0 to 40 °C, while Qatar summer temperatures can exceed 45 °C outdoors.
Tell us the room type, mounting surface, network and streaming software when you request a quote. SmartRooms Qatar will return a quotation, usually within one working day, for this discontinued unit or a current equivalent, with delivery to all eight municipalities of Qatar.
