What the Elo 5503L is, and why it is discontinued

The Elo 5503L is a 55-inch touch display from the IDS 03-Series, designed for interactive signage, self-service terminals and small collaborative meetings. Elo has discontinued this model and replaced it with the 5554L. Touch options and display performance

The panel is an active matrix LCD with a 16:9 aspect ratio, a 1920 x 1080 resolution at 60Hz and a 4000:1 contrast ratio. Typical brightness is 450 nits for the LCD panel, 382 nits for the TouchPro PCAP version and 405 nits for the infrared version. Typical response time is 8 msec.

Two touch versions are available. TouchPro PCAP (part number E531934) recognises up to 40 touches with palm rejection and uses an anti-friction surface. The infrared version (part number E532139) recognises up to 20 touches and has a clear surface. The PCAP version can also sit behind protective glass, supporting touch through up to 6mm glass or 3mm plastic with up to two touches, and it works with gloves up to 1.4mm thick.

Connectivity, computing and accessories

The display has two HDMI 1.4 inputs, a DisplayPort 1.2 input and a USB-C port that carries both touch and video. Four Elo Edge Connect micro USB 2.0 ports allow compatible accessories to be attached, and a 3.5mm connector supports RS232 control. Two 10 W stereo speakers are built in.

For a computer inside the frame, you can add Elo's Windows ECMG4 compute module, or the Elo Backpack 4 for Android, which supports a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080. Peripherals include EMV payment cradles, 2D barcode scanners, a magnetic stripe reader, an NFC/RFID reader, a fingerprint scanner and a status light.
