Brand: Promethean
SKU: promethean-ap7-a86
Availability: Discontinued

Overview

The Promethean AP7-A86 is the 86-inch 4K UHD model in the discontinued ActivPanel Cobalt line. It offers 400 cd/m2 brightness, 20-point Vellum touch, built-in Android 8 and an OPS slot, with a 1,895 x 1,066 mm active area. It suits lecture halls, boardrooms and large training rooms in Doha and beyond. Promethean has discontinued this model, so current owners and buyers seeking a replacement should request a quote from SmartRooms Qatar for a current equivalent.

An 86-inch ActivPanel for large rooms

The Promethean AP7-A86 is the 86-inch member of the ActivPanel Cobalt range in the ActivPanel Elements series. It is a 4K UHD interactive display with a TFT LCD panel and direct LED backlight, built for lecture halls, boardrooms and large training rooms. Promethean has discontinued this model, so this page is written for organisations that already run it, buyers comparing it with newer panels, and anyone who needs a replacement.

Display and touch facts that shape the purchase

The active area measures 1,895 x 1,066 mm (74.6 x 41.9 in). The panel delivers 3,840 x 2,160 resolution at 60 Hz, 400 cd/m2 brightness, a 4,000:1 contrast ratio and an 8 ms response time. The glass is heat-tempered and anti-glare, and an ambient light sensor helps the screen respond to room lighting. Touch uses Vellum writing technology with up to 20 continuous touch points and 1 mm accuracy. Two battery-less pens are supplied, and palm detection is included.

Android 8 (Oreo) built in, with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage.
One OPS slot for a compatible plug-in computer module.
Two 15 W front speakers for sound across the room.

Where the AP7-A86 fits in Qatar

In a lecture hall in Education City, the 86-inch screen gives students at the back a readable view of slides and annotated material, while multi-point touch lets several students write during group work. A boardroom in West Bay or Msheireb can use the panel for video calls with teams abroad, connecting through the rear or front HDMI inputs, the DisplayPort input or the VGA input. A training centre in the Industrial Area can show bilingual training material from a laptop on one large screen.

Planning the installation and the environment

The AP7-A86 measures 2,018 x 1,236 x 113 mm and weighs 84 kg net, or 107.2 kg packed. Its VESA mount point is 700 x 400 mm, so brackets and walls must be rated for that load and spacing. SmartRooms Qatar recommends a free site survey before any wall-mounted installation to check wall structure and cable routes. The power supply accepts 100-240 V AC, draws up to 450 W, and uses no more than 0.5 W in standby. Operating conditions are 0 to 40 degrees Celsius with 20 to 80 per cent non-condensing humidity, so install it in an air-conditioned room away from direct sunlight, especially in Qatar summers when outdoor temperatures pass 45 degrees Celsius.

What is in the box and the next step

The package includes a 3 m HDMI cable, a 3 m USB cable (A-B), a 3 m regional power cable, a remote control, two pens, a wall mount, a Mini PC bracket and a Wi-Fi module with antennas. Supported operating systems include Windows 8 to 10, macOS Sierra 10.12.1 or later, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and Chrome OS. Because this model is discontinued, request a quote from SmartRooms Qatar for a current equivalent or a compatible replacement. We supply, deliver across all eight municipalities, install professionally, and accept LPOs and government tenders.

Questions about AP7-A86

Is the Promethean AP7-A86 still sold new?

No. Promethean has discontinued the AP7-A86, so SmartRooms Qatar can quote for a current equivalent or a compatible replacement instead of this exact model. If your school, ministry or company already runs AP7-A86 panels, we can also quote for matching accessories and advise what to check before a like-for-like swap in a Doha meeting room. Send your room size and mounting wall to start.

How does the AP7-A86 differ from the 65-inch and 75-inch Cobalt models?

The AP7-A86 has the largest active area, 1,895 x 1,066 mm, compared with 1,429 x 804 mm for the 65-inch and 1,652 x 930 mm for the 75-inch. It is rated at 400 cd/m2 brightness, while the two smaller models are rated at 350 cd/m2. It draws up to 450 W and weighs 84 kg net. The 86-inch model is not listed as Energy Star certified, unlike the 65-inch and 75-inch versions.

Can an 86-inch AP7-A86 be wall-mounted in a lecture hall?

Yes. It uses a 700 x 400 mm VESA mount point, and the box includes a wall mount and four M6 VESA screws. At 84 kg net and 107.2 kg packed, the panel needs a bracket and wall structure rated for that load. Before mounting, SmartRooms Qatar recommends a free site survey to check wall structure, sightlines and cable routes, especially in lecture halls in Education City or older buildings in Al Sadd.

How many people can write on the AP7-A86 at the same time?

The panel supports up to 20 continuous touch points using Vellum writing technology, with 1 mm touch accuracy. Two battery-less pens are included, each with a 3 mm pen tip, and palm detection lets a teacher rest a hand on the glass while writing. An integrated full-length pen tray keeps the pens together between lessons, which helps in busy classrooms.

What is the OPS slot on this panel used for?

The AP7-A86 has one OPS slot, which accepts a compatible plug-in computer module so the display can run a PC-based system without a separate desktop beside it. The OPS module is not listed in the box contents, so confirm the module and operating system you need with your IT team. If you need one, include it in your quotation request so the configuration is clear before ordering.

Which computers and operating systems can connect to the AP7-A86?

The compatibility list covers Windows 8 to 10, OS X 10.8 to 10.11, macOS Sierra 10.12.1 or later, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and Chrome OS. The box includes a 3 m USB cable for touch and a 3 m HDMI cable for video. Staff in Doha offices using Windows laptops or Macs can connect quickly, but confirm your operating system version against the list before ordering.

Does the panel need a separate computer to run lessons in a Qatari school?

No. The AP7-A86 runs Android 8 (Oreo) with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage, so teachers can open the whiteboard, timer, PDF reader, browser and media players without a computer. ActivInspire Professional is listed as included in the licence. A private school in Al Wakrah fitting out new classrooms could use the panel as a stand-alone teaching screen and still connect a laptop when needed.

Can the AP7-A86 cope with Qatar's summer heat?

The operating range is 0 to 40 degrees Celsius with 20 to 80 per cent non-condensing humidity, and storage is rated from -15 to 55 degrees Celsius. Outdoor temperatures in Qatar's summer can pass 45 degrees, so place the panel in an air-conditioned room, away from direct sun and window glare, rather than in a hot lobby or corridor. Ask your installer to check ventilation around the unit before mounting.

Can the AP7-A86 host video calls with teams abroad?

It has two rear HDMI 2.0 inputs, one front HDMI input, a DisplayPort 1.2 input, a VGA input, a 3.5 mm microphone input and a 10/100 Mbps LAN port for a wired network. The Wi-Fi module is included and supports 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac. The box does not include a camera, so add one suited to your boardroom in West Bay or Msheireb before the meeting setup is finalised.

What power does the AP7-A86 need in Qatar?

The source data lists a supply of 100 V to 240 V AC, a maximum consumption of 450 W for the 86-inch model, and standby consumption of 0.5 W or less. The box includes a 3 m regional power cable. Qatar mains supply is 240 V at 50 Hz, so confirm the plug and socket arrangement with your electrician and make sure a suitable circuit is available before installation is booked.

What warranty and support apply if I buy a replacement?

Products supplied by SmartRooms Qatar are covered by the manufacturer's warranty. Because the AP7-A86 is discontinued, the warranty and support terms for a replacement depend on the equivalent model you choose, and SmartRooms Qatar will confirm them in the quotation. We recommend that a qualified installer completes the work, as components not supplied by the manufacturer may affect performance, safety and warranty.

Can a school or government body buy the AP7-A86 through an LPO or tender?

Yes. SmartRooms Qatar accepts purchase orders (LPOs) and government tenders, including Monaqasat, with payment by bank transfer, cheque or purchase order. For several panels across a school's classrooms, quotations usually come within one working day. Because this model is discontinued, the quotation will confirm whether the AP7-A86 or a current equivalent is available for your order.
