AP7-B86

An 86-inch ActivPanel Titanium, now discontinued

The Promethean AP7-B86 is the largest of the three ActivPanel Titanium sizes in the ActivPanel Elements series, alongside 70-inch and 75-inch versions. The manufacturer has discontinued this model. This page is written for organisations that already run an AP7-B86, buyers comparing it with newer panels, and anyone who needs a like-for-like replacement for a large room in Qatar.

Screen and touch performance for large rooms

The screen is a 4K UHD TFT LCD with direct LED backlighting, a 16:9 aspect ratio and a display area of 1895 x 1066 mm. At 400 cd/m2 it is slightly brighter than the 380 cd/m2 rating of the 70-inch and 75-inch models, and its 4000:1 contrast ratio and 1.07 billion colours help content stay clear across the room. The 178-degree viewing angle suits seating along the full width of a lecture hall.

Touch uses Vellum writing technology with 20 continuous touch points, 1 mm touch accuracy and palm detection. Four battery-less pens with 3 mm tips are included, each with a rear erasing feature, and two pen identities let the panel handle pen and finger input separately. The anti-glare glass is heat-tempered and rated 9H by pencil hardness and 7 on the Mohs scale.

Connectivity, computing and power for Qatar rooms

Android 8 (Oreo) runs on a quad-core processor with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. A single OPS slot lets you add a plug-in computer module, which is not in the box, so its requirement should be stated in your quotation. Video inputs include two rear HDMI 2.0 ports, one front HDMI 2.0 port, a DisplayPort 1.2 input and a VGA input, with one HDMI output. Touch connects through three rear and one front USB Type B ports, alongside four USB-A 3.0 ports and two rear USB-A 2.0 ports.

For networking, the panel offers a 10/100/1000 Mbps LAN in and out, an included 802.11a/b/g/n/ac 2x2 Wi-Fi module, Bluetooth 4.2, RS-232 and Wake-on-LAN. Its speakers are rated 2 x 20 W. The 100 V to 240 V AC power input covers Qatar's 240 V supply, with a maximum draw of 370 W and standby at 0.5 W or less. The chassis is fanless, which keeps the room quiet during lessons and meetings.

Where it fits and what to plan for

In a university lecture theatre in Education City, an 86-inch screen gives students in the back rows the same view as those at the front. A boardroom in West Bay can use the wide viewing angle and the included Wi-Fi to show material from several laptops during a call with colleagues abroad. A private school in Al Rayyan refurbishing several classrooms could fit one panel per room, connecting each through Wi-Fi or the wired LAN port.

Planning starts with the wall. The panel measures 2014 x 1231 x 109 mm and weighs 75 kg net or 101.6 kg packed, so wall structure and the delivery route must be checked before ordering. The VESA pattern is 800 x 400 mm, and the wall mount bracket measures 1010 x 720 x 52 mm. Promethean recommends installation by a qualified installer, and SmartRooms Qatar offers a free site survey before any wall mounting. In summer, keep the room air-conditioned: the operating range is 0 to 40 degrees Celsius with 20% to 80% non-condensing humidity, while Qatar summer temperatures can exceed 45 degrees Celsius outdoors.

Warranty is provided by the manufacturer and terms vary by region, so ask for the details with your quotation. Government authorities and schools can order through purchase orders (LPOs) or tenders, including Monaqasat, and delivery covers all eight municipalities of Qatar. Request a quote for the AP7-B86 or a current equivalent, and SmartRooms Qatar will confirm mounting, accessories and an estimated lead time in writing.
